House for an Art Lover and all things Charles Rennie Mackintosh

In the late 90s, I visited the Art Institute of Chicago where I was first introduced to Charles Rennie Mackintosh at an exhibit comparing his art and architecture to local contemporary Frank Lloyd Wright. While I’d grown up driving past Wright’s Prarie Style mansions in Oak Park, I’d never seen anything like Mackintosh’s blend of modernism, abstraction, and art nouveau. I fell in love with every detail of his work from his stained glass windows with his iconic rose design to his paintings, ceramics, textile prints, and furniture. From that moment on it was my dream to travel to Glasgow to visit his tea rooms.

Tucked away at the far end of Bellahouston Park, is House for an Art Lover, a museum dedicated to bringing to life many unrealized Mackintosh designs. It was breathtaking, to say the least! No amount of photos could do justice to the amount of detail in each room.
